Police have yet to verify the claim by the mother of the 16-year-old girl who was murdered in Bandar Utama that she was stabbed 200 times

According to the Malay Mail, investigators are still awaiting the autopsy report of Yap Shing Xuen, the girl killed in a brutal attack on Tuesday, 14 October, which has shocked the nation.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat told the media that the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds, though the exact number remains unclear.

He also said a mental health assessment for the 14-year-old male suspect would only be conducted after charges were filed and following a court directive.

According to the New Straits Times, a pathology report is expected to be completed in a month.

She also shared more details about the crime and reiterated that the victim was unaware that the suspect had any romantic feelings for her, as clarified by police.

She urged the public to stop spreading rumours, and to allow her family to grieve in peace.

Yap's funeral wake, currently being held at the Nirvana Center in Kuala Lumpur, will conclude on Sunday.

On Monday, 20 October, the funeral cortege is expected to proceed to the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam for her cremation.

Police have also recorded 127 witness statements to assist in the investigation

Shamsudin said statements were taken from multiple individuals, including students, teachers, school staff, and the family members of the suspect and the victim, to piece together how the tragedy unfolded.

He said additional witnesses would be called if the police determine that they can assist in the probe.
