A diner was assaulted after allegedly staring at a drunk man at a bak kut teh restaurant in Jalan Besar Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

According to China Press, the incident occurred at about 2am last Thursday, 7 May, when the suspect and his two friends were making excessive noise at the restaurant.

The victim, who was seated outside the premises, was said to have stared at the group for several seconds, allegedly provoking them.

A three-minute CCTV video shows the suspect approaching the victim and shoving him, while two other men initially appeared to intervene to prevent the situation from escalating.

However, about 30 seconds into the confrontation, the two men joined the suspect in attacking the victim

All three were seen restraining, kicking, and punching him.

Dinnerware containing leftover food was hurled at the victim as he lay on the ground trying to defend himself, before a kettle believed to contain hot water was thrown at him.

The trio were also seen repeatedly striking the victim with plastic chairs.

Despite the victim pleading for the assault to stop, the attack continued for at least three minutes.

The violent altercation spilled from outside the restaurant into the premises before moving outside again, leaving tables overturned and chairs damaged.

At the end of the ordeal, the victim was seen walking onto the road alone.

Sentul police chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the main suspect has since been arrested

"The suspect and the victim were both eating at the restaurant. The incident is believed to have started after the suspect thought the victim was 'staring' at him.

"The suspect, who was drunk, was annoyed with the victim for 'staring' and attacked him," the New Straits Times quoted Basri as saying.
