The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have identified several individuals, including police officers, suspected of colluding with a drug distribution syndicate that has turned Langkawi into a major trafficking hub in the northern Peninsular

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, confirmed that these developments are the result of rigorous intelligence gathering and a series of large-scale special operations conducted on the island from 10 to 15 April, according to an exclusive by Harian Metro.

According to investigation details, the syndicate is masterminded by a police officer identified as 'Mr A', who allegedly coordinates the smuggling of narcotics from a neighbouring country into Langkawi, before distributing them to the Klang Valley.

The syndicate is believed to have revitalised the organised structure previously maintained by the late Mat Nahar — the infamous 'Pablo Escobar of Langkawi' — who was killed six years ago

Investigators discovered that many individuals currently operating under 'Mr A' are former associates of Mat Nahar's syndicate, demonstrating a deep-rooted continuity in the island's drug trade network.

Recent operational success includes the seizure of 170kg of cannabis 'flowers' in the Klang Valley, which authorities have linked to this specific trafficking route originating from Satun, Thailand, and passing through Langkawi.

Hussein issued a stern warning that PDRM will not tolerate any involvement of its personnel in criminal activities

He said those found colluding with the syndicate will face prosecution under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 (LLPK), and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).

He stressed that JSJN is maintaining close surveillance on the island's drug activities and will continue to execute enforcement actions based on ongoing intelligence

This initiative aligns with the commitment made by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, who assured the public that the force will not hesitate to take direct legal action against any individuals, including law enforcement officers, found undermining national security or involved in drug trafficking.
