The mother of the 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed by her male schoolmate in Bandar Utama has pleaded for an end to the rumours surrounding her daughter's death

At a press conference held at the wake of her daughter, Yap Shing Xuen, Wong Lee Ping said her family was devastated by the tragedy and deeply pained by the false information being circulated.

"We know online reports say 50 stab wounds, but in reality, my daughter suffered 200 stab wounds. She had 200 stab wounds from the stabbing — from the upper right side down to the leg area," Wong said, adding that the injuries were concentrated on the right side of Yap's body.

She said she was told that the suspect, a 14-year-old male student, allegedly jumped from above the lavatory cubicle while Yap was inside before launching the attack.

"He jumped down from above into the cubicle and stabbed her. My daughter screamed loudly; someone heard her. By the time the teacher came and forced the door open, she was already gone," Wong said.

Wong, 44, also denied rumours that a family member was involved in the incident, calling them baseless and cruel. She urged the public to refrain from spreading falsehoods and to allow her family to grieve in peace.

"Please stop spreading the rumours," she said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

She added that they were not of the same age, class, or academic level.

"The suspect and my daughter were not schoolmates of the same class or year. We believe they did not know each other," she said, adding that Yap had never mentioned experiencing any form of harassment or inappropriate advances from anyone.

"She never told us about anyone confessing feelings to her or being rejected by her," Wong said.

The fatal stabbing occurred at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) on Tuesday morning, 14 October

The 16-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in a school toilet, allegedly by a 14-year-old male student.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the attack, and police confirmed that investigations are ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier reports alleged that the suspect had confessed his feelings to the victim the night before the attack and became enraged when she rejected him. However, police have since clarified that while the boy did harbour feelings for the victim, there was no indication he had ever expressed them to her.
