A 23-year-old mechanic was fined RM20,000 by the Ipoh Magistrate's Court for beating a pet dog to death at his residence in Ipoh, Perak
According to the New Straits Times, M Thineshkumar pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772).

The incident occurred at 10.30pm on 18 September at his residence in Taman Arkid, where he struck his sister's dog with an iron rod.

Following the attack, the dog appeared to be in pain but showed no serious external injuries
However, the next morning, a neighbour reported hearing the dog barking in distress and saw Thineshkumar assaulting it again.
The animal was later found bleeding heavily.
When confronted, Thineshkumar claimed he struck the dog because it had tried to bite him. The dog was found lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.
The animal was rushed to a veterinary clinic in Silibin, where it was treated for blunt force trauma to the head and nose, as well as a puncture wound.
Despite efforts to save it, the dog succumbed to its injuries later that evening.
