In recent months, social media has been flooded with videos of unique wedding trends, as newlyweds look for creative ways to make their big day stand out
While some couples have chosen to serve trendy dishes like ayam gepuk, others have taken a more unusual route by giving out live chicks as doorgifts.
Several viral TikTok clips show the chicks — some dyed in bright colours — placed inside small plastic containers without food or water before being handed to guests as they leave the wedding.

The trend has sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens calling it a creative gesture, while others criticised it as inhumane
"The best wedding I've attended. That was the first time I've ever gotten an animal as a doorgift, and I would love to go again," wrote one user.

"Oh my God, those poor chicks. Why would they do this?" asked another.

"This is animal abuse, and it's not cute at all. If they go to the wrong hands, they will die," said another.

"To those who said this is abuse, can't you see that these chicks are well taken care of once they're home? They're given food and water," wrote another.

Meanwhile, the Stray Free Foundation, a local NGO advocating humane, long-term solutions to reduce the stray animal population, said the trend violates the law
"Under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772), giving pets as door gifts is an offence as it falls under the category of exploitation and failure to care for animal welfare.
"Colouring these chicks is also not a form of art; it's abuse. Please report these TikTok accounts to stop this from happening," the organisation wrote in a post on X.
