A senior dog named Ruby is looking for a permanent home after being found wandering alone at Bukit Jalil Park, Kuala Lumpur last month
On 15 August, Joanne Ong and her husband spotted the frail and malnourished dog near a condominium on Jalan Jalil Perkasa 1.
Ruby walked directly towards Ong, appearing to seek affection and help.
Out of sympathy, Ong bought her chicken and rice but left with a heavy heart.
When Ong returned to the park the next day, 16 August, she hoped to see the gentle dog again.
She decided to take Ruby to the vet to be spayed, hoping to curb the number of strays in the area.
Ruby was there, and once again, she walked straight to Ong.
"I managed to put her on a leash and took her to the vet for spaying," she recalled.
However, at the vet, Ong discovered that Ruby had already been spayed
With no ear markings, which is common for strays, the vet said Ruby was likely a family pet before she was abandoned.
The vet also estimated Ruby's age to be between 5 and 8 years old.
Ruby's initial treatment and hospitalisation cost RM455, excluding ongoing boarding costs. She is currently placed at a boarding facility while Ong looks for an adopter.
"I will give a minimum of two months to monitor her behaviour while waiting for an adopter.
"She is very well-behaved, not picky with food. Every meal, she seems very hungry and always finishes all her food despite missing a front tooth.
"She can understand simple commands, such as 'sit' and 'wait', and she can walk with a leash and follow closely," Ong said when contacted today, 10 September.
The animal lover added that Ruby has also shown signs that she gets along well with cats.
