Authorities have ordered the closure of an instant noodle café in Melaka after a TikTok video showing a forlorn-looking alpaca on its premises went viral

According to Buletin TV3, the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) raided the café on Jalan Bunga Raya at midnight on 21 September and instructed it to shut down immediately to allow thorough cleaning.

Officials discovered the eatery had been housing an alpaca, goats, geese, cats, and rabbits alongside its food business.

The café owner, a Singaporean permanent resident, was fined RM10,000 under the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 2001 and RM250 under the MBMB Food Establishment By-laws 2020.

Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman, who led the raid, said the action followed public complaints that the café featured a free "mini zoo" without approval, in clear breach of hygiene and food safety standards

"Checks showed the food premises licence was only issued in April, but since June the owner had brought in 23 animals, including an alpaca, goats, ducks, geese, rabbits, and cats.

"We took immediate action, and the owner must remove all animals and clean the premises within seven days," he said.

The café first attracted attention when a TikTok video of a "lonely" alpaca went viral, drawing sympathy from netizens

The visitor, who had recently visited the café, posted the video as she pitied the condition of the animals there.

The clip, along with other visitor reviews and photos, also prompted local NGO Stray Free Foundation to criticise the café for animal mistreatment

According to the NGO, animals were kept in poor and unhygienic conditions, including:
– Geese, rabbits, and goats confined in cramped, dirty enclosures
A strong stench of urine and faeces throughout the premises
– An alpaca housed on a hard surface with no form of enrichment
– Nursing cats and kittens subjected to constant handling by visitors

Despite open windows, fans, and air conditioning, many visitors also complained they could barely eat the café's instant noodles, priced from RM5, because of the overpowering stench of animal waste.

During the raid, authorities found the alpaca confined in a separate room, over 10 cats in a glass enclosure, rabbits in cages, while geese, ducks, and goats roamed freely upstairs

Melaka Deputy State EXCO for Science and Technology, Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem, who was present during the raid, said the Department of Veterinary Services will carry out its investigations and take action today, 22 September.
