Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was found not guilty and released from his self-administration drug case after a urine test returned negative

Deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur confirmed in court that the urine test report showed no traces of drugs in Namewee's system.

Namewee's lawyer, Joshua Tay, said that the prosecution's charge of self-administering drugs was therefore invalid, and requested the magistrate to dismiss the case.

Magistrate Arunjothy M Selvaraju granted the request, finding Namewee not guilty and ordering his bail money to be returned.

The decision applies to the Section 15(1)(a) charge under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering amphetamine, methamphetamine, THC, and ketamine

Namewee still faces a separate drug possession charge for 5.12g of ecstasy, which remains pending as authorities await the updated chemist report.

Section 39A(1), for drug possession, carries two to five years' imprisonment and three to nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The drug charges are separate from the ongoing murder investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found dead in a hotel bathtub.

Namewee remains a key figure assisting authorities in that investigation.
