Rapper Namewee has issued his first public statement since being released on a 13-day police bail last week, addressing the death of Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin and describing his shock and helplessness upon finding her unconscious
In a Facebook post on 14 November, Namewee recounted the gruelling hours of questioning and the stark reality of what he had witnessed.
"After nine days of detention, I am finally out. This is the longest time I have ever experienced in a lokap (holding cell). Including the first and second days of the incident, I have been detained and investigated by a total of six different police teams. This meant more than eight hours of questioning each day, with the longest session lasting 15 hours," he wrote.
He described being grilled by teams from the Criminal Investigation Department, D9 Special Investigation Division, Dang Wangi police lockup unit, multiple narcotics departments, and a special operations task force dispatched by the Inspector-General of Police.
He said every angle of the investigation was scrutinised, with repeated statements taken and technological tools employed to piece together the events surrounding Hsieh's death.

"This was the first time I watched someone pass away in front of me. I felt very sad, helpless, and shocked. I had already tried my best to save her, but I was powerless to change the outcome. This image will remain in my mind forever and ever," he wrote in the post, which has since gone viral with over 42,000 likes and close to 5,000 comments.
Even in the face of public scrutiny, Namewee pleaded for understanding and urged the public not to judge Hsieh solely on her work.
"Finally, I hope everyone will not judge another person's profession with prejudice. Filming for OF (OnlyFans) does not mean she was an indecent person. Please stop the cyberbullying against the deceased."
Known to fans as the "nurse goddess" for her nursing degree and work as an OnlyFans creator, she was found dead in a hotel bathtub along Jalan Conlay on 22 October. She had reportedly been working on a video project with Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, at the time.
