Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said Malaysian rapper Namewee shared a "special relationship" with murdered Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, but stopped short of confirming they were dating
Speaking to reporters at the city's police headquarters earlier today, 11 November, Fadil described the pair's relationship as "more than just close friends" but declined to elaborate, citing ongoing investigations.
"They are friends and they have other relationships that I will not get into," Fadil said, adding, "I do not need to reveal the full extent, but it is a 'special' relationship."
He also confirmed that police had recorded statements from all parties involved, reported FMT.
The victim, popularly known as "Nurse Goddess" and Iris Hsieh, was famous for her risqué content as an OnlyFans creator.
She was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur on 22 October after meeting Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, reportedly to discuss filming a video.
According to Fadil, investigations so far indicate that Namewee and Hsieh had been together while overseas, prior to their meeting in Malaysia.
"So far, investigations show that the man indeed had a special relationship with the victim," Fadil was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Fadil revealed that several individuals had tried to claim Hsieh's body
However, police denied their requests as their identities could not be verified.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the victim's family to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Earlier, Hsieh's social media manager, Chris, told the media that her parents will not be travelling to Malaysia to manage her posthumous affairs and have appointed a representative to handle matters on their behalf.
Meanwhile, Fadil noted that they are still awaiting the victim's toxicology report.
"That will take time. We will determine our suggestions to the deputy public prosecutor in the near future," he added.
Namewee, who is currently on remand over Hsieh's alleged murder, was earlier charged with drug possession after he tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC
He has pleaded not guilty.
The court allowed him to post bail of RM4,000 for each charge.
The case, initially classified as a sudden death, has since been reclassified as murder.
Namewee surrendered to police on 5 November, and his remand has been extended until Thursday, 13 November.
