Malaysian rapper Namewee is facing an uncertain future after being released on bail, following his arrest linked to the reclassification of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh's death as murder

The ongoing police investigation has reportedly led to the cancellation of all his professional engagements.

The 42-year-old singer-songwriter, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, revealed on Monday, 17 November, that every single project scheduled for 2026 has been cancelled.

"Since the case is still under review… my schedule, which was originally packed, has been cancelled all the way through to the end of next year," he wrote on Facebook.

In what appears to be a mix of satire and resignation, Namewee offered to take on literally any work, from behind-the-scenes jobs in the entertainment industry to manual labour

"I know how to fry chicken cutlets, make fried rice, cook curry, scrub burnt pots, and even install security grilles. If there is something I don't know, I can learn. As long as there is income, I'm good," he said.

Even a Chinese New Year song he had already written is now in limbo after sponsors pulled out amid the controversy

He said the song was meant for the Year of the Horse in 2026 while he looks for new sponsors.

He even offered to compose a promotional jingle for any prospective sponsor.

"If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact me," Namewee wrote, assuring that the song contains no profanity or inappropriate content and "sounds better than any of my previous CNY songs".

Namewee said he would "refund half the amount" if the music video does not reach 10 million views before the Chinese New Year.

"If something 'happens' — referring to the possibility of being arrested again — to me before the Chinese New Year, I'll refund the full amount."

According to the New Straits Times, Namewee has released a Chinese New Year-themed song every year for over a decade.

His 2025 track, Snake's Coming, which was released on 20 December 2024, has amassed more than 7 million views on YouTube, while The People Of The Dragon, released on 26 January 2024, has 11 million views.

Nameween is currently out on a 13-day police bail, which ends on 26 November

He spent nine days in remand over the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin, better known as "Nurse Goddess".

Hsieh was found dead in a Kuala Lumpur hotel bathtub on 22 October.

The case was initially classified as a sudden death but was reclassified as murder on 4 November.

Wee turned himself in to the police on 5 November.

Following his police bail, the rapper issued a public statement, addressing Hsieh's death and describing his shock and helplessness upon finding her unconscious.

Namewee admitted that beyond the remand, it was the personal impact of the tragedy that affected him the most.
