A trader has lost over RM600,000 to a non-existent business investment scheme

As reported by the New Straights Times and Bernama, Nilai police received a report from the victim, a frozen foods trader in his early 50s, regarding the crime.

According to district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim, the man was approached on 21 April by someone offering a business investment opportunity that required him to open an eBay account to start investing in an online venture.

He then transferred funds into 19 different banks, amounting to RM677,890

All this occurred over the course of 43 transactions made by the victim, who only realised he had been scammed when he was unable to withdraw either his supposed profits or his initial capital.

Police are now investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
