The skipper involved in the boat capsize tragedy off Pulau Perhentian that claimed three lives last Saturday has pleaded guilty to drug use
According to Bernama, Azrie Yazid, 22, admitted to consuming nimetazepam, a drug classified under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, at the Besut Magistrate's Court today, 3 July.
Nimetazepam is a benzodiazepine-class drug, a type of sedative typically prescribed to treat insomnia, anxiety, and sometimes seizures.
He was charged with the offence at the Narcotics Office at the Besut District Police Headquarters at 10.05am on 29 June.

Under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he faces a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, if convicted
The court granted Azrie bail of RM2,500 with one surety and scheduled 4 September for case mention.
Inspector Mohd Zaidi Mat Yasin led the prosecution, while Azrie was represented by Norhuda Mohamed Khan from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

According to earlier reports, the skipper tested positive for drugs following the accident on Saturday, 28 June, and had five prior drug-related offences on record
Initial investigations also found that both the travel agency and the boat operator's licences had expired in April, and that the skipper failed to ensure passengers were wearing life jackets.
Authorities also noted further safety violations, such as operating the boat at night and exceeding the permitted passenger limit.
Investigations into the exact cause of the incident are still ongoing.
