Police have made a major breakthrough in the gruesome case of a 31-year-old insurance agent found stuffed inside a suitcase in Butterworth, Penang, earlier this month

According to Bernama, four suspects, two men and two women, have been arrested in connection with the murder. The men, aged 24 and 38, are brothers, while the women are aged 31 and 42.

They were detained earlier this week in separate operations around Butterworth and Kampar, Perak, carried out by the Penang police contingent's CID with assistance from the North Seberang Perai District CID team.

All four suspects were brought to the Butterworth Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, 22 October, where Magistrate Aini Adila granted a seven-day remand order until 28 October to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, reported China Press.

When brought to court, the suspects were seen wearing detention uniforms and handcuffed as they were escorted by police officers.

The victim, identified as Lee Wen Han, also known as Daniel Han Lee, from Penang, had been missing since 7 October

At about 1am on 8 October, his mother received a message from his phone claiming he was heading to Perlis for work and might return late or the next day.

However, relatives suspected that the message wasn't sent by Lee himself, as his phone had been unreachable since noon and he had stopped responding to messages.

On 9 October, around 1.45pm, police received a call from the public about a suspicious suitcase found behind the Ampang Jajar flats in Butterworth.

Officers who arrived at the scene discovered a man's body inside the luggage. The victim's neck bore visible injuries, his hands were tied, and a plastic bag had been placed over his head.

A post-mortem confirmed that he had died of asphyxiation.
