Almost a week after the horrifying discovery of a Penang man's body stuffed in a suitcase behind the Ampang Jajar flats, more details have begun to emerge about the case

Police are now piecing together what happened to the 31-year-old insurance agent, identified as Lee Wen Han (also known as Daniel Han Lee), revealing new findings that shed light on how he died and what investigators have uncovered so far.

Below is a breakdown of what we currently know.

1. The victim died from suffocation, not from the slash wound

Police have confirmed that Lee's cause of death was suffocation, according to the post-mortem report released earlier this week.

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the finding confirms that the deep slash across Lee's throat was not the fatal injury.

"The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as suffocation," he said in a statement quoted by China Press last week.

Lee's body was found with his hands bound, throat slashed, and a plastic bag over his head — suggesting that he may have been suffocated before being placed into the suitcase.

Investigators believe he was killed elsewhere and later dumped behind the Ampang Jajar flats in Butterworth.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and police say they are working tirelessly to track down those responsible.

2. Police found his car just 450m away from where Lee's body was dumped

Lee's Toyota Vios, bearing the registration plate PPP 3135, was discovered parked near a residential area opposite the Ampang Jajar garbage transfer station, roughly 450m from where his body was found.

The vehicle has since been seized for forensic examination.

Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area for leads.

3. His family identified the body and held a sombre funeral

On the morning of 10 October, Lee's parents, accompanied by family and close friends, formally identified his body at the Seberang Jaya Hospital mortuary.

Yesterday morning, 12 October, a funeral was held at the mortuary in Ayer Itam, then the casket was transported to the United Hokkien Cemeteries Funeral Parlour for a final send-off, according to Oriental Daily.

The Chinese daily reported that Lee's parents struggled to contain their grief: his mother wept uncontrollably at times, while his father stood silently by the coffin.
