Malaysian rapper Namewee will be released on police bail today, 13 November, after the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) found no evidence linking him to the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed the decision, saying investigators have yet to uncover any leads connecting the 42-year-old controversial artiste to Hsieh's death.

"Instructions have been given for further investigation to be conducted. So far, there is no evidence that shows the suspect was involved in causing the influencer's death," Dusuki was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.

"However, if there are any new findings, the AGC will take appropriate action."

He also confirmed to the New Straits Times that Namewee would be released on police bail.

The decision comes after Kuala Lumpur police submitted the investigation papers to the AGC on Tuesday, 11 November.

The case gained widespread attention after Hsieh, 31, was found dead in a hotel bathtub along Jalan Conlay on Kuala Lumpur on 22 October

She was reportedly in Malaysia to work on a video project with Namewee.

Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was said to have discovered Hsieh unresponsive in the bathroom and performed CPR before calling emergency services.

The case was initially classified as a sudden death but was reclassified as murder on 4 November.

Wee turned himself in to the police on 5 November.

His initial remand was due to end on 10 November but was extended by another three days, which expires today.

Under Malaysian law, the police must either charge or release a suspect once the second remand period has lapsed.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus had earlier claimed that Wee and Hsieh shared a "special relationship"

"I do not need to reveal the full extent, but it is a 'special relationship'," he told reporters, as quoted by The Star.

"They are friends, and they have other relationships that I will not get into."

Hsieh, known among her fans as the "Nurse Goddess" for her looks and nursing background, had over 545,000 followers on Instagram and 349,000 on Facebook, where she often shared provocative content.

Wee was earlier charged on 24 October with drug possession and consumption after testing positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC

Police also reportedly found nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the hotel room that he had shared with Hsieh.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on RM4,000 bail for each offence. The next court mention for his drug case is set for 18 December.
