The police have ruled out rape in the death of Taiwanese influencer and former nurse Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin and have reclassified the case as murder

According to Malay Mail, Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed in a statement today, 4 November, that the case has been reclassified, overturning the earlier investigation that was filed under sudden death (SDR).

Earlier, Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that Hsieh and Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, had spent the night in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, reported China Press.

The 31-year-old influencer was found dead in a bathtub in the hotel room on 22 October, after Wee reportedly tried to resuscitate her.

When asked whether Wee was at the hotel to discuss work with Hsieh, Sazalee said police could only confirm that the two had spent the night at the premises.

"The two spent the night at the hotel. Since the case did not involve rape, the police are not charging Wee with sexual assault, but rather with drug possession after failing a urine test," he said.

The deceased's manager, Chris, said Hsieh died of a heart attack, but an autopsy is still being conducted to determine the exact cause of death

Authorities are investigating whether any drugs were present in her system, reported China Press.

Wee was arrested after police found nine pills believed to be ecstasy in the hotel room, and he tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.

He was later charged with drug use and possession, and was released on RM8,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on 18 December.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, 2 November, Wee denied taking drugs and claimed that the ambulance arrived an hour late to save Hsieh.
