Melaka police have launched a probe into a case of animal abuse involving a dog being skinned alive
According to FMT, Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said they received a report after a complainant and NGO representatives searched for the dog following a public tip-off last Friday, 15 August.
"The dog was found to have severe injuries on its body and neck, believed to be from abuse.
"A person who frequently feeds stray dogs in the area took the injured dog to a veterinary clinic for treatment, but the injuries and infection were found to be too serious.
"On the veterinarian's advice, the dog was euthanised to avoid prolonging its suffering," Patit said.
He said the authorities are taking the matter seriously, and the case will be investigated under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
If found guilty, the suspect faces a fine of up to RM100,000, a prison term of up to three years, or both.

Yesterday, 17 August, the Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) shared a series of photos showing the dog with the skin on its head and back exposed
"SAFM strongly condemns the inhumane act that occurred in Krubong, Melaka, where a dog was found with its skin peeled off at the Krubong Industrial Area, Melaka on 15 August 2025."
The NGO urged on the authorities, particularly the police and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), to take firm action against those responsible.
The group stressed that animal cruelty is a serious offence that must be addressed under the law.
The police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Rizal Kiraman at +6013-7702523.
