A small home-based pet boarding centre in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur has called out a dog owner for allegedly abandoning his poodle, Chewy — and then disappearing without a trace

In a series of Instagram posts and stories, Fluff Day Care & Pet Boarding, run by a couple from their own home, shared their shock and frustration after the owner left his dog with them and never returned.

"We're really shocked, angry, and sad when we realised it could be true that Chewy had been abandoned.

"It's difficult to process. We're just two humans who genuinely love dogs," they wrote.

The couple explained that Chewy was booked for boarding from 25 July to 4 August, but the owner failed to pay the usual 50% deposit, claiming he was waiting for his salary

Trusting him, they agreed to take Chewy in anyway.

However, just three days later, their WhatsApp messages to him started showing only one tick.

"He even assured us that he wouldn't abandon Chewy, but I guess we held on to the trust that a person wouldn't abandon their dog," they said, sharing a screenshot of the WhatsApp conversation between them.

When 4 August came, the owner didn't show up to collect Chewy and could no longer be reached.

Still hoping it was a misunderstanding, as the owner claimed he was travelling overseas, they searched for him on social media, but came up empty

They eventually found an Instagram profile for Chewy and managed to contact the owner's ex-girlfriend, who confirmed that they had broken up a year ago and that Chewy had been in her ex's care ever since.

She gave them the contact details of the owner's colleague and mother to help track him down.

The colleague said the owner had resigned a month ago. His mother, meanwhile, claimed she couldn't reach him either, but gave what the couple felt were inconsistent and suspicious answers.

Out of options, the couple filed a police report to protect themselves and Chewy, and have since taken him to the vet for a check-up

They now plan to rehome Chewy, ideally to someone they know, before opening up his adoption to the public.

The couple also expressed their gratitude to their friends and followers for the outpouring of support during this difficult situation.
