The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is progressing smoothly and is set to be completed by December 2026, according to MRT Corp

Once operational, the rail shuttle will cut travel time between Johor Bahru and Singapore to just six minutes.

In a Facebook post on 19 June, MRT Corp highlighted the impressive speed of the upcoming RTS Link, teasing commuters with the question: "Ever wondered how quickly you'll be crossing the border with the new RTS Link?"

Spanning approximately 4km, the RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore

The service is expected to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, significantly easing congestion at existing land checkpoints.

Trains will run daily from 6am to midnight, with peak-hour intervals as short as 3.6 minutes — offering a major upgrade in efficiency for cross-border travel.

To enhance accessibility, the Bukit Chagar station will also feature 1,550 car parking bays and 1,000 motorcycle lots.

As an international project, the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities for both Singapore and Malaysia will also be co-located at each station

This means commuters will only have to clear immigration once at their point of departure.

MRT Corp anticipates the RTS Link will begin operations in January 2027

With the launch of this new service, the existing Tebrau Shuttle operated by KTM — currently running between JB Sentral and Woodlands — is expected to be retired.

The RTS Link will offer a significant capacity boost over the KTM service, which can only carry 320 passengers per trip.

The construction works for Penang's very own LRT is also on track:
