A Vietnamese man has been fined for making a bomb joke to Malaysia Airlines staff upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Vietnam

According to Vietnam News, the man had just disembarked from Malaysia Airlines flight MH752 from Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 22 June, when a flight attendant enquired about the black luggage box he was carrying.

His response? "Bomb."

According to airport authorities, the single word triggered the airport's entire security protocol.

The man was immediately escorted off the aircraft and detained for questioning

The passenger later admitted that the remark was a misguided joke made out of ignorance and apologised to authorities

He was fined 4 million dong, approximately RM650.

Noi Bai International Airport issued a public reminder that joking about bombs, explosives, or weapons in any airport or onboard a flight is strictly prohibited

According to the airport's reminder on Facebook, such remarks will trigger emergency response measures, may create fear and panic among fellow passengers, and will cause unnecessary delays.

Passengers are also urged to always cooperate with aviation staff during inspections and to remind family members — especially children — not to make jokes about sensitive security topics.

"Anyone who violates these rules will be held fully accountable for the consequences," the airport said.
