A man was killed when he illegally attempted to overtake on a double-lined road and collided with an oncoming trailer carrying gas cylinders at KM13 of Jalan Lukut-Sepang in Negeri Sembilan on Tuesday, 24 June

Port Dickson district police chief Supt Maslan Udin said the incident occurred about 3.30pm and involved two cars — a Proton Saga and a Proton Wira — as well as the trailer.

"Initial investigations found that the accident happened when the 51-year-old Proton Wira driver attempted to overtake another vehicle across double lines.

"However, the attempt failed, causing his car to collide head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction," he said in a statement, as quoted by Harian Metro.

He said the trailer had tried to avoid the crash by swerving onto the shoulder of the road, but to no avail

"As a result, the trailer overturned, and the gas cylinders it was carrying fell and hit the Proton Saga.

"The Proton Wira driver died at the scene due to head and leg injuries, while the 44-year-old male trailer driver sustained minor injuries," he said.

The 35-year-old male Proton Saga driver was unharmed.

Maslan said the body of the Proton Wira driver was taken to Port Dickson Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

He added that the accident caused a traffic jam in the area for nearly three hours, as the scattered gas cylinders and overturned trailer had to be cleared from the road.
