13-Year-Old Among 9 Riders Arrested Over Viral Puchong Highway Attack On Myvi

The Myvi driver had pulled over onto the highway shoulder to make a phone call when the riders approached him and his passenger.

Police have arrested nine people, including a 13-year-old, in connection with a viral incident where a group of over 20 riders was caught on video attacking a Perodua Myvi on a highway in Puchong

The incident took place near the Batu 13 Toll Plaza in the early hours of Saturday, 27 September.

Serdang district police chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the suspects, all local males aged between 13 and 21, were detained in a series of early morning raids around Puchong and Shah Alam, according to Berita Harian.

Six of the nine suspects are minors.

The Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court granted a four-day remand order for all suspects, which will run until Friday, 3 October

"One of the suspects arrested is the individual seen in the viral video provoking the driver, including damaging the side mirror and kicking the Myvi," Muhamad Farid said in a statement.

Police also seized three motorcycles believed to have been used during the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for riding or driving recklessly on a public road and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.

What happened that night?

Preliminary investigations revealed that the confrontation took place around 4am, when the 52-year-old driver pulled over onto the highway shoulder to make a phone call.

The motorcyclists approached the vehicle and questioned the driver and his passenger before riding off. However, they later tailed the Myvi and began kicking the car several times, causing damage to the vehicle.

The driver, a security guard, subsequently lodged a police report.
