A Malaysian woman recently went viral after sharing how she successfully claimed over RM8,000 from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) following an accident — and she hopes more employees will learn their rights and benefits

For many employees, PERKESO contributions may seem like just another monthly payslip deduction. But when unexpected accidents happen, this social security scheme can become a crucial source of financial support if you're unfit for work.

In a post on X , user @mikaylamajla shared how she sustained injuries after falling into a drain while sending her child to school before work.

The fall left her with seven fractures in her foot and a torn peroneal tendon, requiring urgent surgery and two months of rest.

Mikayla figured that since she had been contributing to PERKESO, it was worth trying to file a claim

And true enough, she called the organisation and was informed over the phone that she was eligible for a 'Temporary Disablement Benefit' under PERKESO's Employment Injury Scheme.

"So, on 10 June, I went to submit my documents at the PERKESO office at Jalan Tun Razak. I barely waited five minutes before my number was called. I submitted everything, and it was done in under five minutes and I went home," she wrote.

The next day, PERKESO called her for a routine follow-up and confirmation of details of her case, and just two days later — on 13 June — she received a payment of over RM8,000.

"I got my claim! I'm so, so grateful. Thank you, PERKESO, for making the process so easy for this single mother," she added.

Mikayla shared with SAYS that she wanted to use her experience to remind other employees that PERKESO exists to protect workers especially in times of injury, illness, or hardship

"These are our rights. This is what social security is for — to protect us. But we also need to play our part by knowing our benefits and submitting the right documents," she said.

She also stressed the importance of informing your employer immediately after an incident occurs and making sure to document everything properly — from medical visits to police reports.

"The police report serves as proof that the accident actually happened — it helps validate your case," she explained.

Here are the documents she submitted to get her claim processed quickly:

– Form 34 (downloaded from PERKESO's website)
– Copy of idenfication card
– Original medical certificate
– Payslips from the six months before the accident
– Attendance record for the month of the accident
– Local bank statement
– Police report
– A sketch map showing the route from home to work and where the accident occurred
