A newly circulated dashcam video has shed disturbing light on last Saturday's fatal crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza, which killed a 1-year-old boy and injured seven others
The footage appears to show the lorry driver jumping out of the moving vehicle well before the crash, leaving it to barrel into the toll plaza uncontrolled.
The incident happened at around 11am on 27 September and involved the tipper lorry carrying scrap materials, a Nissan X-Trail belonging to the Shah Alam Public Works Department, a Honda City, and a Proton X70.
The 33-second recording, edited with captions and music, captures both the moments leading up to the crash and the collision itself
In the video, the dashcam car, travelling over 100km/h, overtakes the tipper lorry on the highway. As the dashcam car draws level, the lorry driver's door is seen wide open as the vehicle barrels down the highway at high speed.
The dashcam car continues towards the toll plaza, slowing to under 20km/h as it queues to pass the toll.
The same lorry suddenly appears from the right, moving at high speed and out of control. At the 22-second mark, it slams into the vehicles in front and the concrete structure of a SmartTAG lane, sending debris flying.
The aftermath shows debris scattered across the toll plaza as the dashcam vehicle comes to a stop.
The footage suggests the lorry was already driverless by the time it reached the toll plaza, consistent with police statements that the driver had jumped out after allegedly experiencing brake failure.

The crash left a 1-year-old boy trapped under the Nissan X-Trail
He was extricated at 11.30am but was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.
An adult male trapped under the same vehicle was rescued earlier and taken to the hospital. Seven others sustained injuries and were rushed to Kajang Hospital, Serdang Hospital, and KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital.
While the Kajang police arrested the 42-year-old lorry driver shortly after the crash, he has since been released on bail
Checks revealed he has a criminal record with two offences — including one drug-related — and four traffic summonses.
The driver admitted to jumping out of the vehicle after the alleged brake failure.
His urine and alcohol tests at the time of the fatal crash came back negative.
According to Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof, the driver claimed the lorry's brakes failed while travelling from Semenyih to Putrajaya. The lorry had last been serviced in April.
The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
