A university student has been nabbed in an operation dubbed 'Op Pedo', which uncovered thousands of files containing child pornographic material

According to the New Straits Times, the suspect was apprehended on 29 April in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

The operation involved personnel from the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) Unit, the Women and Children Sexual Investigation Division (D11) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), and the Johor Police Contingent.

The team had coordinated with Google to obtain critical information ahead of the raid.

According to D11 principal assistant director SAC Siti Kamsiah Hassan, the probe uncovered at least 5,000 child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) as well as adult pornographic materials on the suspect's electronic devices.

While most of the materials were believed to have been downloaded from the Internet, the suspect is also believed to have produced some of the content himself.

Subsequent investigations revealed two child victims, aged 4 and 9 — both of whom were the offender's own cousins

The suspect allegedly recorded the abusive acts on his mobile phone across multiple incidents in Selangor, Kelantan, and Pahang.

Three separate investigations have since been opened by the respective police contingents

According to Siti Kamsiah, the suspect's electronic devices were seized under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code.

The suspect was charged in Johor on 22 May for possessing CSAM and pornographic materials.

He pleaded guilty and was fined RM5,000.

As for the crimes involving his cousins, which were committed at his family home in Sungai Buloh between 2023 and 2025, the suspect was charged yesterday, 19 June, in Klang.

Investigations into his other actions — including filming one of the victims bathing in a toilet in Maran, Pahang, and incidents that took place at his grandmother's house in Kelantan last year and this year — are currently being reviewed by the Deputy Public Prosecutor and Attorney-General's Chambers, respectively.
