Two 15-year-old students involved in the bullying and physical assault of their Form 3 classmate in Sungai Petani have been placed on a two-year good behaviour bond

The Sungai Petani Magistrate's Court delivered the decision yesterday, 28 October, after reviewing their character reports, reported China Press.

Both teenagers had earlier pleaded guilty to intentionally causing hurt to their 16-year-old schoolmate under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year's jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Since both offenders are minors, the case was heard behind closed doors.

Magistrate Mohamad Azlan ordered the duo to sign the good behaviour bond and report to the Social Welfare Department every month.

The incident happened around 12.15pm on 21 July inside a classroom at a school in Sungai Petani, Kedah

The victim had just returned from a school-arranged eye check-up and was reading a novel alone when a group of three to four classmates started disturbing him.

According to his father, a motorcycle repair shop owner, one of the boys allegedly punched his son repeatedly until he lost consciousness.

The attack was said to have taken place in front of a female trainee teacher, who had just begun her placement a month prior.

Doctors later confirmed that the victim suffered a concussion, bruising around his left eye, and traumatic uveitis (inflammation) from the assault.

The boy's family had previously lodged a police report, claiming he had been a target of bullying since last year. Kuala Muda police confirmed the case was investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
