A shocking photo of a fish bone protruding from the side of a woman's neck in Thailand went viral on social media last week
According to the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred in Phetchabun province, with the woman's husband sharing the details on Facebook as a cautionary tale to others.
He said his 45-year-old wife required surgery to remove the 2cm-long bone two weeks after it first became lodged in her throat.

He said the ordeal began when his wife ate a bowl of fish soup, unaware that there were bones in the meat
As she was eating, she suddenly felt a sharp pain when one bone became lodged in her throat.
Following old-fashioned advice, she tried swallowing more food to push the bone down. When that didn't work, she used her finger to try to dislodge it.
However, when all else failed, the couple visited a hospital. An X-ray was done, but failed to detect the bone. Believing it had passed naturally, they went home.
Over the next two weeks, however, her symptoms worsened.
Although her throat became inflamed, the second hospital visit still failed to identify the cause, and she was sent home with medication.

As the pain worsened over the next few days, the wife applied tiger balm relief patches to her neck, and that was when she felt something sharp on the side of it
It was only while changing the patch the next day that the couple made a shocking discovery — the fish bone had pierced through and was visibly sticking out of her neck.
They rushed to Bueng Sam Phan Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the bone. Medical staff said it was the first time they had encountered such a case.
The couple shared their story and posted photos online to urge others to exercise care when eating fish.
"It's something so simple, but it could've caused serious harm. We just want others to be more aware," they wrote.
