Police have remanded a 41-year-old man for seven days over the murder of a Kuching woman, whose body was found stuffed in a bag and buried in a backyard near Kampung Batu 4, Pedas

Negeri Sembilan police deputy chief Senior ACP Idzam Jaafar said the suspect was arrested at 2.30pm yesterday in Melaka, following intelligence and investigations launched after the body was discovered.

The suspect was brought to the Tampin Magistrate's Court this morning, 19 December, for a remand hearing.

The court approved the seven-day remand until 25 December to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Idzam said the post-mortem at Hospital Rembau has begun to determine the cause of death

"At the moment, we are awaiting the autopsy report and family confirmation before continuing the investigation into the suspect's link to the victim," he said.

He added that the suspect may have known the victim and has six prior criminal offences, including drug-related ones.

Police believe there may be other individuals involved in the case.

Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The woman, Suri Narudin, a 53-year-old woman, was reported missing on 8 December after failing to arrive at her planned destination in Zurich, Switzerland, on 9 December

She had planned to travel through Kuala Lumpur and Doha, Qatar, as part of her usual annual routine of visiting friends in Switzerland.

Concern over her disappearance grew after her friends in Zurich waited for her for several hours at the airport.

Unable to reach her, they later contacted her family in Sarawak. Suri was known to be highly communicative, regularly updating friends on her movements, which made her sudden disappearance alarming.

On 18 December, Negeri Sembilan police discovered her body stuffed in a bag and buried in the backyard of an unoccupied house.

The discovery followed a missing persons report lodged in Ampang, Selangor.
