Suri Narudin was due to arrive in Zurich, Switzerland, on 9 December, where friends were waiting to pick her up.
However, the 53-year-old Sarawakian never made it.
After waiting for hours at the airport and failing to reach her, her friends in Switzerland contacted Suri's family in Kuching, Sarawak, sparking days of worry that ended with a shocking police discovery in Negeri Sembilan.
On Thursday, 18 December, the body of the 53-year-old Kuching native was found stuffed in a bag and buried in the backyard of an unoccupied house in Kampung Batu 4, Pedas, the New Straits Times reported.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the body was discovered following tips received after a missing persons report was lodged in Ampang, Selangor.
"On 15 December, a police report regarding a missing woman was received at the Ampang police station, followed by further information at the Pedas police station. The police then went to a house on Jalan Pedas–Linggi and discovered elements of criminal activity in the backyard," he said.
The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
According to Alzafny, police are currently tracking down those believed to be involved.

One of her close friends, Mac Ruhayu Mohd Nor, said Suri was scheduled to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Doha, Qatar, before continuing her journey to Zurich.
"The friend who was waiting in Doha didn't know who to contact when Suri didn't arrive, which was why concern only arose later, after her friends in Switzerland couldn't trace her," he said.
According to Mac Ruhayu, Suri's friends in Zurich waited up to eight hours at the airport before realising something was wrong.
"They waited for her for eight hours, but she didn't arrive. That was when they finally contacted her family in Sarawak," he added.
Mac Ruhayu said Suri's trip to Switzerland was part of her annual routine to meet old friends, with flight tickets and accommodation arranged well in advance.
He said Suri was not the type of person to suddenly go silent; she was usually easy to contact and kept her close friends updated on her whereabouts.
He added that worry only grew after several days passed without any contact, despite repeated attempts to reach her.
Efforts to locate Suri were hampered by a lack of clear leads, and the initial missing persons report did not suggest any criminal involvement
However, Mac Ruhayu said sustained pressure, including public appeals and circulating information online, such as a video he uploaded on social media, helped prompt a broader investigation.
"If there hadn't been pressure and cooperation from everyone, this case might have been treated as one without criminal elements. We're thankful to the Royal Malaysia Police for acting swiftly," he said.
Suri lived at Apartment Seri Nilam, Ampang, and frequently travelled between Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur. When in the capital, she stayed with her niece, who works at a shopping centre.
Meanwhile, a man who assisted with daily errands, including sending Suri's niece to school, has been identified as part of the investigation
Mac Ruhayu said the individual is now part of the ongoing investigation, but emphasised that the family is leaving all further developments to the authorities.
He stated that their main focus is uncovering the truth and receiving a clear explanation of the situation.
He added that he would go to the hospital after the post-mortem, before making arrangements to bring Suri's remains home.
"As her close friend and family, this is deeply painful. We hoped she would be found safe and well. But if this is her fate, we accept it."
