A 26-year-old e-hailing driver has been arrested and remanded over the alleged sexual harassment of a female passenger in Johor Bahru, after a video of the incident went viral earlier this week

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arshad said police arrested the suspect on 4 February after the victim, a Vietnamese national, lodged a police report.

He said the video of the incident began circulating on social media on 2 February, before the victim filed a report.

"The victim came forward to file a report three days after the video footage of the incident had gone viral on social media," he said in a statement.

"Acting on the information received, police arrested the suspect in the Johor Bahru area on Wednesday to assist with investigations."

The suspect has been identified as a teacher at a Chinese primary school in Johor Jaya, according to China Press.

Police seized two mobile phones, a Perodua Bezza, and other items, including a remote control, from the suspect

The man was brought before the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court yesterday, 5 February, where police were granted a three-day remand until 7 February.

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a person's modesty.

The suspect, who was driving for Grab at the time of the incident, has had his Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence revoked and is barred from operating on all e-hailing platforms.

The alleged incident took place while the victim was travelling from Taman Mount Austin to R&F Mall in Johor Bahru

Footage shared online showed the driver allegedly reaching towards the back seat and making inappropriate remarks to the passenger while trying to touch her.
