UPDATE:

E-Hailing Driver, Also A Teacher, Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Harassment Of Female Passenger

A Grab driver in Johor Bahru has been accused of sexually harassing a female passenger during a ride and asking her for her "rate" in Mandarin

The incident reportedly occurred on 1 February after the woman booked the e-hailing ride from Taman Mount Austin to R&F Mall.

The victim recorded the driver's behaviour during the trip.

The videos were later uploaded to a Facebook group called JB Chui Shui Zhan by an anonymous poster claiming to be the passenger's sibling.

The post also included a screenshot showing the Grab driver's details.

In video clips shared online, the driver is seen repeatedly reaching towards the rear passenger seat, apparently attempting to touch the woman's thigh and hand

He was also heard speaking to her in Mandarin, asking her age and whether she could speak the language.

In another clip, he allegedly asked, "How much? How much to rent a room with you?"

The passenger responded by shielding herself and later saying, "I can't be acquired."

The woman's sibling, who shared the footage, said the victim was in tears during the incident and locked herself in her room after returning home

In the post, the sibling said that the family was "angry and heartbroken" and that a police report would be lodged once the victim was emotionally ready.

"I hope that [the driver's] family members, friends, and partner can help correct him," they added in the post.

Screenshots showed the ride cost RM64.89.

Johor Baru South police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the case is under investigation, although no police report had been lodged as of 2 February.

"We are identifying the people involved, witnesses to the incident, and the actual cause of the incident," the New Straits Times quoted him as saying.

Members of the public with information have been urged to contact the district police headquarters.

Grab Malaysia has apologised and said the driver's account has been banned

In response to media queries, the company said it had reached out to support the passenger and would cooperate fully with authorities.

"We are truly sorry that the passenger went through this distressing experience on our platform," Grab said, adding that safety remains a priority.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke later said the driver had been barred from operating on all e-hailing platforms after the Road Transport Department revoked his Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.

"The revocation means the driver is no longer allowed to operate on any e-hailing platform," he said in a statement.

He added that the Land Public Transport Agency would summon e-hailing operators, including Grab, to present plans to strengthen passenger safety.

"The ministry will not tolerate any behaviour that threatens passenger safety," Loke said, adding that authorities would support the victim to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Separately, Sin Chew Daily reported that the driver is a school teacher at a Chinese primary school in Johor Bahru

The chairman of SJKC Johor Jaya said the matter would be referred to the Johor State Education Department once the individual's identity is confirmed, noting that the incident occurred off-campus and that the school was awaiting further verification.

The chairman later told Sin Chew Daily that the male teacher involved had stopped reporting for duty as of 3 February.

According to him, following discussions between the school and the teacher, it was agreed that the teacher would take a few days off while awaiting further action from the authorities.
