A 54-year-old man, who raped and physically molested his daughter when she was 10, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and 13 strokes of the cane

According to the New Straits Times, the accused faced two charges, with the Temerloh Sessions Court judge Jamaludin Mat sentencing him to 20 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane for rape, and an additional 10 years and three strokes for physical sexual assault.

However, Jamaludin ordered the prison sentences to be served concurrently, starting from the date of his arrest on 12 September 2022.

He was found guilty of raping his daughter in March 2022

According to the facts of the case, the accused was charged with raping his daughter at a house in Kampung Lubuk Paku, Maran.

The charge was framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and a maximum of 10 strokes of the cane.

For the second offence, the father of six was found guilty of committing physical sexual assault against the child at the same place at approximately 8pm on 8 August 2022.

For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Before sentencing, the public prosecutor requested the court to mete out the harshest penalty commensurate with the accused's heinous act.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Khairunnisa Zaffar, while the accused was represented by lawyers Khairul Anuar Abu Hasan Ashari and Ahmad Zahid Abu Hashim.
