The historic laneway has been transformed with Guardians of Legacy (十二福星), a colourful art installation that celebrates protection, care, and generational bonds.

Inspired by the traditional Cloth Tiger (布老虎), a handmade folk art gifted by parents or grandparents to children, the installation features twelve Zodiac Guardians, each representing a different blessing, from safety and courage to joy and prosperity.

Co-founder Zeen Chang explains that the installation is a nod to the quiet, everyday acts of love that parents show their children, which we later learn to honour through care and respect for our elders.

Adding a modern twist, Kwai Chai Hong partnered with guardian Malaysia, the homegrown pharmacy chain, to highlight the idea of everyday wellness as a form of protection.

Priscilla Wu, managing director of guardian Malaysia, notes that this collaboration celebrates shared heritage and the ongoing care that binds Malaysian families across generations.

The Guardians of Legacy installation, conceptualised by co-founder Javier Chor, brings the Chinese zodiac animals to life with sculptural figures in varying sizes, including a lead Guardian that towers over 7 feet tall

"Each [guardian] carries different motifs and well wishes, shaped by a parent's hopes for their child. That idea of personalised care stayed with me… Guardians of Legacy grew from that belief," Javier explains.
