The girl and her mother reportedly shared a good relationship

Their neighbourhood head, identified only as Tono, claimed the suspect's father told him the incident occurred after the suspect became upset when her mother scolded her older sister.

However, police and other sources have not confirmed this motive.

Medan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKBP Bayu Putro Wijayanto, said special assistance is required for questioning the girl.

"This is currently under investigation and examination. We need support, as she's traumatised. We can't force her because she's a 12-year-old minor. We're waiting for the doctor. The motive and other details are still being investigated."
