A 38-year-old man has been remanded after a viral video surfaced showing him caning two boys inside a house in Petaling Jaya, Selangor
In a statement yesterday, 18 January, police said they received a report on 17 January regarding two children being beaten in the living room of the home.
District police chief ACP Shamsulmuddin Mamat said the victims were siblings, aged 8 and 11, and the suspect is their uncle.
Shamsulmuddin revealed that the caning occurred after the victims acted defiantly towards the suspect's mother.
A 35-second video earlier went viral on social media, showing the children being struck with a cane and having a chair thrown at them.
Shamsulmuddin urged witnesses to come forward and advised the public not to spread inaccurate information about the incident.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for child abuse.

Before his arrest, the suspect shared a series of Facebook posts, including two CCTV clips showing one of the victims allegedly assaulting and threatening an elderly woman, believed to be their grandmother
In one of the videos, allegedly recorded on 9 January, the boy can be seen brandishing a cleaver at his grandmother, who visibly recoiled and said she would call his uncle.
In another video, allegedly recorded on 21 October 2025, the same boy is seen snatching his grandmother's phone while she was filming him.
The boy's forceful pull caused the grandmother to fall, leading to a physical struggle.
The suspect had claimed the boy pushed his grandmother's head against a wooden chair before strangling, punching, and kicking her.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
