On 18 September, three police officers were arrested after a female student lodged a report accusing them of extortion, sexual coercion, and molestation.
The incident allegedly occurred in the early hours of the previous night, when the officers stopped her and her boyfriend in Sentul.
More than a month later, the three policemen remain on active duty as prosecutors decide whether to press charges against them.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the investigation paper has been completed and was referred to the deputy public prosecutor today, 28 October, for further instruction.
"We referred the investigation paper with the recommendation that the three be charged," he said.
Fadil said that investigators have proposed charging one of the policemen under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, an offence punishable by up to 10 years in jail, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these, reported the New Straits Times.
All three have also been recommended for charges under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries similar penalties.
Meanwhile, FMT reported that the integrity and standards compliance department is conducting a separate disciplinary probe against the trio.
"The trio remain on active duty but [they] are not in the field. They will be suspended from duty if we get the order to charge them," he was quoted as saying.

According to the victim's report, the officers demanded their MyKad and seized their mobile phones, reported the New Straits Times.
Two of the officers then allegedly went through her boyfriend's device and found private photos, which the third officer then used to threaten her.
She further alleged that the third policeman separated her from her boyfriend, and told her the private photos they found of her amounted to a "serious offence" punishable by a RM10,000 fine or two years in jail.
He allegedly demanded that she either pay him on the spot or engage in sexual acts with him to "settle" the matter, warning that her life would be ruined if she refused.
He allegedly threatened to detain her boyfriend if she refused to comply.
The student claimed the officer molested her by pinching her left breast during the two-hour encounter, and took her MyKad, saying she would only get it back if she met him again the next day.
