A woman has been arrested at a Las Vegas airport after abandoning her dog to catch a flight
CCTV footage of the incident, captured on 2 February, showed the woman approaching the counter at Harry Reid International Airport with a leashed Goldendoodle.
According to a statement by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), airport staff told the woman she had to fill out online documentation in order to bring her dog as a service animal. However, because her paperwork was incomplete, she was denied a boarding pass.
At this point, the woman tethered her dog to a metal carry-on baggage sizer before proceeding to her departure gate.
The pup, which appeared active and in high spirits before being abandoned, attempted to follow its owner but could not do so. The check-in operator immediately alerted authorities while other staff members comforted the dog.

Upon being confronted, the woman claimed she was going to rebook her flight.
When asked why she abandoned her dog, she said the airline had denied her entry with the animal before claiming it had a tracking device, implying this was an acceptable reason to leave it behind.
After becoming hostile towards officers, she was arrested and booked on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest.

After a mandatory 10-day period passed without the owner's return, the animal, which is around two years old, was handed off to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas.
The dog has since been renamed "Jet Blue" and is now safe in foster care, where it will soon be adopted into a loving home.
