A TikTok video of a foreign passenger's outburst at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and later onboard a Batik Air flight has gone viral
The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, 27 September, but the video montage, capturing a string of shocking moments from KLIA to mid-air, was only uploaded on TikTok yesterday, 1 October.
The man, identified as Lin Weida, a 41-year-old Cambodian tour agent, has since pleaded guilty to two charges and was fined RM900.
The video opens with Lin, wearing a loud yellow floral shirt, standing at a security checkpoint in the KLIA Satellite Building
He is seen pouring water from his bottle over the head of security officer Sheikh Muhammad Syafiq Sh Khalid, 26, stunning those around him.
The officer stays composed, while Lin takes a sip from the same bottle before tossing it into a nearby bin.
The next clip shows the same passenger in the business class cabin of Batik Air flight OD606 from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur.
Lin is seen standing in the aisle, visibly agitated as he shouts and gestures wildly at crew and passengers.
On-screen text in the video alleges that he tried to hit a flight attendant.
A female crew member can be heard repeatedly instructing him to sit down as he waves his arms and argues, while other passengers look on.
The TikTok compilation ends with screenshots of a Harian Metro report dated 30 September, showing Lin's court appearance, where he pleaded guilty
He was charged with two offences.
For verbally abusing flight attendant Yuszai Yusof, 43, during the flight at 5.20pm, he was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which carries a maximum fine of RM100.
For criminally intimidating security officer Sheikh Muhammad at KLIA's Satellite Building later that evening, he was charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of three months' jail, a RM1,000 fine, or both.
Lin pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined RM100 for the verbal abuse and RM800 for the assault, which he paid on the spot to avoid jail time.
While the fines were within the limits of the law, many online criticised the punishment as merely a "slap on the wrist".
