A Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Machang student was killed after she was hit by a motorcycle while crossing a road on campus on Saturday evening, 13 December, police said
Machang district police chief Supt Ahmad Shafiki Hussin said preliminary investigations found that the 19-year-old victim had a wireless earbud in her right ear when she was found at the scene.
"Preliminary findings show the device was still in her ear after the accident," he told Kosmo! when contacted yesterday, 14 December.
The fatal accident occurred about 6.20pm and involved a third-semester student from the Faculty of Management and Business.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ahmad Shafiki said a Honda RS-X 150 motorcycle, ridden by a male student from the Faculty of Accountancy, was travelling from the main gate of the UiTM Machang campus towards the hostel
"As the motorcycle was going uphill, the victim, who is from Marang, Terengganu, is believed to have suddenly crossed the road," he said.
"The 20-year-old rider, who is from Shah Alam, Selangor, swerved to the left but still collided with the victim."
He added that the student fell onto the road divider and suffered severe head injuries.
A post-mortem conducted by a forensic medical officer at Machang Hospital confirmed that the cause of death was severe head injuries, Ahmad Shafiki said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
