Thai police were called to a hotel on Soi Pattaya Beach 11 recently after three Indian tourists reportedly refused to pay for a bar girl they hired for sexual services
According to the Pattaya Mail, the police were called at 2.30am about a seemingly different matter entirely — the tourists had claimed that a woman had entered their hotel room and refused to leave.
When police arrived, they found a Thai woman aged between 35 and 40 who was startled but unaware of having done anything wrong.
Asked about what was going on, the woman told police a different version of events.
According to her, she had been hired by the tourists for sexual services, at a price of 3,000 baht (RM391) per person. Furthermore, a 1,000 baht (RM130) deposit had already been paid. After spending some time with them at a local bar, she followed the men back to the hotel.

Allegedly, because her figure was not what the men had in mind, they changed their minds and asked her to leave.
The woman refused to do so. She said that since they had already agreed on a deal, they should pay her the full amount even if no services were rendered. The men agreed, and left the hotel under the pretext of withdrawing money.

The police asked the contesting parties to settle the matter peacefully, warning them of legal action if no resolution was reached.
In the end, the tourists received a partial refund, and both parties parted ways without pressing charges.
Pattaya has a reputation as a hub for Thailand's sex industry
The resort city draws sex tourists of all ages and nationalities, who are ready to visit the city's trove of go-go bars, massage parlours, erotic street performances, and ping-pong shows.
According to DW, Thailand generates billions of dollars in annual revenue from the sex industry (around USD6.4 billion), but because prostitution is officially illegal, sex workers are excluded from all government aid programmes.

In March 2023, Thai lawmakers drafted a law to allow individuals aged 20 and above to voluntarily engage in sex work. If legalised, it could lead to better regulation, better health and safety standards, and curtail the serious problem of human trafficking in addition to granting sex workers stronger rights.
