Soldier Dies After Seniors Allegedly Force Him To Perform ‘Commando Rest’ At 2AM

The alleged bullying incident took place at a military camp in Miri.

A member of the armed forces died after he was allegedly abused by his seniors at a military camp in Miri, Sarawak, on Monday, 24 March

The victim was a 21-year-old soldier from Puchong, Selangor, reported Berita Harian.

According to a source, the victim was woken up at 2am by two senior personnel for sahur.

However, before he could eat, the seniors allegedly ordered him to assume the commando rest position, in which he had to bend down, place his head on the floor, and keep his hands behind his back.

He was allegedly told to remain in the position for two minutes, followed by 20 push-ups.

When the victim stood up after the exercise, he immediately fainted and collapsed

The incident was reported to a corporal, who also serves as the head of the quarters.

The corporal rushed the victim to Hospital Miri, but he was pronounced dead at 3.05am.

Sarawak police commissioner Mancha Ata said the two seniors, aged 22 and 24, were arrested at the military camp at 4.30pm yesterday, 25 March, reported Harian Metro.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
