A traffic police officer in Kuala Lumpur has gone viral after confronting a 20-year-old man for taking a 14-year-old girl out late at night

The encounter, which was captured on video and posted on TikTok on 2 January, has amassed over eight million views and more than 500,000 likes.

In the video, Officer Hafiz questions the pair on the roadside, stressing the legal consequences under the Children's Act.

"Just turned 14. What form? Which school?" the officer asks the girl.

She replies, "Taman Equine School."

"Where do you stay? Does your mom know you're out?" the officer asks. The girl replies, "They know, sir."

After initially questioning the girl, the officer turns to the man and does not mince his words

"20 years old. Is this guy 20? Do you know that age? Yet you still brought an underage girl.

"Do you know what you did wrong? It's the Children's Act. She is still a child."

The officer's tone grew serious as he addressed the man directly.

He shakes his head and warns, "Don't talk like that, man. Hey, an underage person shouldn't be out of the house like this, you know."

He then continues, "And why are you picking up kids? There are people your age, but you still wanted this kid," adding a stern reminder, "Do you know what you did wrong? It's the Children's Act. She is still a child."

"You brought a child out, and you're 20. Don't you feel guilty? She isn't even a teenager yet," he concludes with a final admonishment.

The officer also expressed disbelief after learning that the pair had only known each other for a day through TikTok

"How did you meet this one? Through friends or from TikTok?" he asks the girl, who says, "From TikTok.

"How long have you known each other?" the officer continues. The girl replies, "Known for a day."

"Known for a day? Already out for the New Year? Where do you work?" he asks the man. The man says, "Kajang".

"Kajang? I can detain her, you know. Make her parents come pick her up at the station. Because she is underage. Under 18," the officer warns.

"If the parents come, are you going to answer? What will you say to her parents?" he asks.

"It's her aunt, not her mom," another officer clarifies.

"But you know you're not supposed to be out, right? Or you didn't know? Only at age 20, you're finding this out? Okay, we'll detain [them] first," he says.

Meanwhile, netizens were shocked at the age difference while commending the officer for stepping in

"We need more police officers like this in Malaysia. It's the only way to curb these rampant immoral activities," one comment read.

Others questioned the girl's guardians: "Where are her mum and dad?"

Some reflected on their own childhood: "When I was 14, I was busy thinking about what to eat tomorrow in the canteen. I didn't want to go out at night."
