School administrators are allowed to temporarily shut schools if temperatures exceed 37°C for three consecutive days

According to Bernama, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the measure is part of the Education Ministry's guidelines introduced in 2023 and may be enforced if hot and dry weather conditions worsen.

"State education departments and schools have sufficient experience in managing the current situation," he said during a working visit to Gopeng, Perak today, 27 March.

"We recognise this remains a challenge for the ministry in ensuring the comfort and health of students," he added.

He also said all outdoor school activities must be called off if temperatures stay between 35°C and 37°C for three straight days

This includes activities such as cross-country runs, camping, drills, and other outdoor programmes.

The ministry said it has instructed school leaders — including principals, headmasters, and district education offices — to closely monitor daily temperatures in their respective areas.
