The owner of a nasi kandar restaurant in Seremban has denied allegations that his establishment recycles leftover food, after a viral video showed a worker washing food scraps
"That's impossible," said Datuk Fadzil A Bakar in a press conference after a Facebook user claimed his restaurant was washing leftover food to be reused and resold the following day.
Fadzil clarified that the food scraps were never intended for resale. Instead, they were being cleaned before being donated to feed stray animals.

Fadzil explained that an animal lover has been collecting food waste from the restaurant for the past three years to feed stray cats and birds
"We clean the food so that it doesn't spoil quickly. The cleaning of the food waste is done to separate oil and spices before being given to stray animals," Fadzil said.
The restaurant owner added that while customers have the right to raise concerns, he was disappointed the matter was taken to social media instead of being discussed directly with management.
"If they were dissatisfied or saw something amiss, they should have met with the management first, not immediately made it viral," he said, adding that the image of his restaurant has been tarnished by the incident.
However, he added that he is currently not considering legal action, unless defamatory claims continue to spread, and will wait for the authorities' investigation to determine whether any offence occurred.
At the press conference, stray feeder Manikandan Krishnasamy confirmed he has been collecting food waste from restaurants in the neighbourhood for the past five years, and had advised them to wash the scraps before donating them
"I asked the restaurants to wash the leftover meat and scraps because oily food can cause skin problems for the animals. All the restaurants I collect from, I ask them to wash it," he said.
