A restaurant in Seremban that was allegedly caught washing leftover food for recooking and resale has been ordered to close for 14 days
According to the New Straits Times, the Negeri Sembilan State Health Department (JKNNS) said the closure order was issued under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983, along with a compound notice under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
The restaurant was ordered to cease operations starting yesterday, 3 February.
JKNNS added that on the third day of the closure, enforcement officers will carry out a follow-up inspection to assess whether corrective measures have been implemented.
"JKNNS views food hygiene and safety issues seriously. The public, especially food owners, operators, and handlers, are required to ensure that food safety aspects are properly maintained," it said.

It warned that neglecting hygiene and food safety measures could lead to food poisoning incidents, adding that it remains vigilant against any threats to consumer safety
The department also advised the public to prioritise food safety by practising the "Observe and Choose" principle when selecting eateries, and the "Look, Smell, Taste" approach as the simplest way to prevent food poisoning.
The incident was brought to light on Facebook after a passerby claimed he saw an employee washing uneaten portions of food — including chicken, lamb, and tofu — and sorting them into trays.
He claimed that when confronted, the employee admitted the leftovers were being washed for reuse.
