12 Malaysian police officers are under investigation for allegedly pulling off a high-stakes crypto heist
According to the New Straits Times, the group, which includes four officers from the federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), was detained following a reported gang robbery involving cryptocurrency.
The victims, a group of Chinese market surveyors, claimed they were shaken down during a late-night raid at their rented bungalow in Country Heights, Kajang.
According to the 31-year-old complainant, the officers demanded a payout to "secure their release" despite finding no evidence of criminal activity during their inspection.
The suspects, aged between 24 and 47, allegedly threatened the group with immigration action unless they paid RM400,000.

After negotiations, the victims reportedly transferred USDT50,000 (RM196,000) to a digital wallet provided by the raiding party in the early hours of the morning
The crackdown began after a special team from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Kajang district headquarters carried out a series of coordinated arrests over two days.
The suspects include an assistant superintendent, an inspector, and several personnel with ranks ranging from sergeant to constable.
Investigations deepened when interrogations linked four additional officers from Bukit Aman's cyber and digital forensic units to the incident
These federal officers — who have between six and 22 years of service — were allegedly present during the 11.10pm raid on 5 February.
PDRM investigators have since seized multiple mobile phones and SIM cards to trace the digital paper trail of the cryptocurrency transaction.
The 12 men are being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, though they were released on bail following their remand.
