Three men linked to a series of break-ins across Melaka were shot dead after they attacked police officers during an operation at an oil palm estate in Durian Tunggal early this morning, 24 November

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the incident happened around 4am when a team tried to arrest the suspects, known as "Geng DT".

According to him, the men, two aged 24 and one aged 29, were armed with long machetes and turned violent when approached, reported Harian Metro.

One of the corporals suffered serious injuries

"He was slashed on his left arm and it nearly cost him his life," Dzulkhairi said at a press conference at the Melaka police headquarters.

With the officer critically hurt and the suspects still charging, police opened fire.

"Police had no choice and had to discharge their weapons in self-defence. All three suspects died at the scene," he said.

The group is believed to be responsible for at least 20 break-ins involving houses, factories, and eateries since 2024, with estimated losses reaching RM1.3 million

The suspects allegedly moved on foot and carried weapons while targeting premises, a method police say they used to avoid detection.
