Twenty-one alleged secret society members have been arrested in an operation across Sarawak on Wednesday, 15 April

The operation, 'Op Pusak Merah', was launched by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department to crack down on violent local criminal syndicates, said its director Datuk M Kumar.

He said the operation, carried out across Kota Samarahan, Kuching, Simunjan, and Padawan, led to the arrest of 21 suspects, aged 19 to 44.

Initial checks found that all suspects had criminal records, including robbery, treason, and drug-related offences.

The operation is a proactive effort by the CID to cripple syndicates believed to be involved in extortion and rioting

Efforts to track down and arrest other individuals suspected of involvement are intensifying, Kumar said.

The arrested suspects have been remanded until 20 April. They are being investigated for possession of weapons, robbery, and extortion, among other offences.

He urged members of the public with information on criminal activities to come forward and assist authorities.
